yes, to make it a little lighter though I would recommend sifting a small amount of flour to the batter but you can make it into a cake, would resemble devils food cake.

I think it's okay because the recipe is based on the brownie. So even if you put it in a cake pan, it won't spring up like a cake would because the ingredients used are for brownies. There's a certain ingredient used so that the cake would spring up so you're safe if you use a cake pan for a brownie recipe.
Unless you change the recipe so it will cook lighter it will still have the brownie consistancy.
